Codes and Conventions of Website Design

A successful website must be simple to use yet eye catching and interesting. It must contain images, clear titles, further links and matching colour schemes.

The layout is one of the most important factors for your website. A successful website should be easy to navigate around with clear links and titles in sensible places. Linksare also important as they allow the audience to easily find whatever they are searching for. A successful website may also use other interactive methods such as scroll bars, help boxes and search bars. I believe Google is an effective search engine site; the layout is simple and basic. The information is centered and is the main focus of the website.

Images should be carefully chosen, they should both compliment the text and make the site more interesting. There should be an equal balance between text and images so neither are too overpowering.

The colour scheme of a sight creates an impression immediately. Clashes of colour could make a site unattractive. As colours can convey mood, the colours should make a strong first impression so it should instantly attract an audience and help them understand the theme of the site.

The colour schemes of a sight is also very important as colours can immediately create a mood or give an impression (for example red can signify love so it may be used on a dating site). The wrong use of colours can confuse the audience or make a site unattractive and unappealing to look at. A successful website should use colour scheme to compliment or add to the theme and text. As colours can convey moods the colour scheme of a site makes a strong first impression so should instantly attract an audience and help them understand the site.

Websites successfully use codes through text, colours, music and sound to link everything to the theme of the site. A site that uses codes successfully is the dating site Match.com. The pink highlights throughout the site have connotations of love as pink automatically refers to ideas of love and romance. There are also small images such as the repeated image of a couple holding hands. Also the reference to Cupid through the use of images relates to love also.

Overall I believe a thriving website is one that uses appealing appropriate colour schemes; helpful and interesting images; a apparent, easy to navigate layout and codes and conventions that productively convey the website’s content.

A2 Level Introduction

I will start my year 13 media coursework by researching the web industry and TV industry. I will be carrying out research on these particular things to further my knowledge in web designing. I will be looking at many popular TV websites.

I will be looking at;
http://www.e4.com
http://www.channel4.com
http://www.mtv.co.uk
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/

^These are some of the websites I will be looking at. All of the websites above are linked with teenagers, most of the programmes that are shown are associated with young teens.
Such as; The Inbetweeners, Family Guy, Big Brother, Skins, One tree hill and many more.

In one of our recently lessons we were asked to create a mind map on different TV shows which involve teenagers.
